The BMW i7 is being tested on ice and snow as BMW is working on new model – BMW i7 which will be world’s first purely electrically powered luxury sedan.

At this moment this model is being tested and prepared to be ready for different temperature conditions.

Since batteries are sensible to temperature conditions that is very good that the BMW i7 is being tested on ice and snow.

According to BMW Press Group here are some of specs related to power consumption: power consumption combined: 22.5 – 19.5 kWh/100 km according to WLTP; CO2 emissions: 0 g/km; prognosis based on the vehicle’s current level of development.

WORLD PREMIERE: The BMW Concept i4 Electric Gran Coupe

Finally stop but that is not final version yet…well BMW presented the Concept i4 Electric Gran Coupe.

Many will say they are late to game but I think they are trying to bring something nicer and better.

Being first does not always mean being best.

May be BMW does not want to play hard in electric game but will provide better alternatives on hydrogen…who knows….

So let’s get into some technical data:

BMW i4 Electric Gran Coupe Concept DriveTrain and Battery

This is fifth generation of BMW eDrive technology and bmw i4 generates maximum output of up to 390 kW/530 hp, which ranks it alongside a current BMW V8 combustion engine.

New high voltage battery with very slim construction means better energy density.

“It weighs roughly 550 kilograms, has an energy content of around 80 kWh and achieves an operating range of up to 600 km in the WLTP cycle.”

BMW i4 will be assembled in Munich and series production will begin in 2021.

The company is investing a total of around 200 million euros in Plant Munich to bring series production of the BMW i4 to fruition.

Hydrogen BMW’s, where are they?

Hello, do you remember in 2001 BMW did a world tour (in Dubai, Brussels, Milan, Tokyo, Los Angeles and Berlin) with 10 BMW E38 models named BMW 750hL?

Under the hood those E38 had a V12 and it worked on both hydrogen and petrol. On hydrogen that E38 could drive 350km and its hydrogen tank is for 140 litres.

Recently I saw a video with James May driving a Toyota Mirai which is a hydrogen fuell cell electric vehicle so I asked myself why BMW is not doing smth similar. I guess since 2001 they could have developed and improved this technology to another level.

Btw, It takes around 3-5 min to fill it up and continue driving 🙂

Can automakers make cars that will last 200.000km or more with no issues or did cars really become worse?

Whenever we start a discussion on cars everyone who is 40-45 years says that there were times when cars were made by engineers and not marketing guys and this made cars quality to drop.

Well I am not at that age and do not have long time experience with new older cars like E34 or E46 (even I owned used BMW’s) however my question is still there: can automakers make a car that will work with no issues (ok no major issues) for 200 or even 500.000km?

Why there are companies which give 5 years guarantee and others just 2 or 3?

Do you think they can do better but dont want?

I see for example KIA is giving 5 years while BMW 2 or 3 (in some cases) I always had the impression that if I buy German car it must work longer, last longer since it is German and since it costs more?

What do you think and which car in your experience lasted longer with no major issues?

How would you rate interior car quality of BMW E39 vs E60 and F10 vs G30?

Market launch of the new BMW X5(G05) xDrive45e

Another great news from BMW for SAV fans. New BMW X5 45e is coming 🙂

Hybrid Bmw X5 in G05 body style combines 6-cylinder petrol engine with 286 Hp and an electric motor (lithium-ion battery of 24kWh) with 113 HP which together generates a system output of 290Kw/394Hp and 600Nm.

The new BMW X5 xDrive45e is fitted as standard with a two-axle air suspension and electronically controlled dampers. The optional suspension systems available for the plug-in hybrid model include integral active steering.

Increased battery capacity in BMW 5 G30 starting with August 2019

Finally they did it 🙂 Now you can drive BMW 5 G30 more on pure electric power which makes it great choice for daily commute.

According to article on BMW Press it looks like all models starting with 08/2019 gets new generation battery cell technology with increased energy storage capacity of 12.0kWh with same physical size as before. The previous battery was 9.2kWh.

bmw vs tesla

If to compare at the moment of writing this what has bmw to offer to beat tesla model s p100d?

Let’s take main differences:

According to Tesla model S offers a range of: 370 miles (EPA est.)

Tesla offers 4 years guarantee for basic vehicle and 8 years for battery and powetrain

So if you want to go electric and save the planet looks like you have no other choice than Tesla. I am not talking about small range vehicles here.

Tesla is on the market for some time already and Bmw has nothing similar besides i3 which is not in this class.

What were Germans doing all these years? Or they have a secret plan? 🙂 Let Tesla promote e-vehicles and we will come later ready to sell…
